No, it is not pleasant, but unfortunately, it is the harsh reality, one most people dont like to face, or deal with, and turn a blind eye too because it is so unpleasant. But it is something that must be addressed and changed. There are millions of highly adoptable animals, including kittens, puppies, and purebred animals, put down every year. Dont be a irresponsible pet owner. Please....Spay and Neuter your pets.
5-10 million animals are killed annually in the U.S,. because there  are no homes for them.*

"Doctor Death/ Born To Die"  offers the reflections of a veterinarian and a euthanasia technician  about their 3 years  at a local animal shelter in Las Vegas. The film  focuses on their experiences of putting down adoptable animals.
Dr. David Henderson and Ms. Gabriele Radford somberly look  at  the  many animals who are destroyed as a result of irresponsible pet owners and breeders. Graphic images may not be appropriate for children as we watch the process of animals being euthanized at the shelter. It is meant to provoke a strong emotional response to motivate people to take action.

cancerous mammary tumors

Grammy was 11 years old when she got here and not spayed. She was FULL of huge cancerous mammary tumors. She had so many and they were so big , that there was barely enough tissue left to sew her back up.  The staples , stitches and surgical glue were very tight.  This caused swelling and we sat for many hours holding a bag of frozen corn on her belly. She would not lay down at all , she would put her head down , and leave her butt up in the air ,  for the first 3 days after her surgery. She was given pain medication, and it did take the edge off for her.

Update 02/17/2006

Grammy's mammary tumors have now come back and she now also has cancerous mouth tumor.  Due to her being unable to withstand anesthesia , the only option was to put her down to relieve her pain.

09/13/2006 - Milly was spayed today and found to have Pyometra , she also had mammary Tumors removed.

Prostate Cancer

Prostate Cancer
All intact (not neutered or not castrated) male dogs are more prone to prostate problems as a result of the effects of testosterone (male hormone) on this gland over time. The testosterone most commonly leads to benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH) in older male dogs.
